Hebrews 2:6 “What is man, that thou art mindful of him?”

Have you ever thought about this question? Who am I that God is mindful or aware of me? Why does God love ME? The question bears answering since I know beyond question that I am not intellectually superior, special, or worthy in any way that would merit God’s love or concern.

Before we examine it, let’s first look at to whom the question is addressed. It is not addressed to anyone on earth but directly to God. It is seeking an answer from God Himself, asking the question, “God, please, reveal to us the answer to the question of WHY you are mindful of man (us).”

Contemplating on this scripture leads me to an undeniable scriptural fact, “God is mindful of man;” or, to be more specific, since we are all included in the general term of “man”, God is mindful of each of us. How mindful is He?  Matthew 10:30 states, that He is mindful of us to such an extent that even the “very hairs of our head are all numbered" (by God).

I often think about this question because, according to our text, the question is not, “does God know of me?” but, “WHY is God aware or concerned about me?" Some would say the reason is because He loves me (us). But this answer still doesn’t explain the question of WHY.

The fact is, I do not know the answer to this question, and maybe no one on earth does.

But not knowing the answer to “WHY” does not alter the fact that God IS mindful of me (us). Just knowing this undeniable fact helps me through those difficult times when I am struggling or feeling that no one understands or even cares.  As I dwell on this question I am brought to the amazing realization that I am never really alone because God is close by and cares for me beyond all reason or human explanation.

He IS always mindful of me, and amazingly, He has even promised me eternal life when my time on earth is over through the atonement of his Son, Jesus Christ. We may never fully understand much about God while on earth, but the small portion that we do know causes me to rejoice and proclaim,  “WHAT A WONDERFUL GOD WE SERVE!”               Dennis Tutor
